"Celebrating – The Jubilee" seminar held on the evening of 15 May 2014 at the Metropolitan YMCA saw the keynote message introduce 79 participants from various VWOs to a fresh perspective on wealth creation, asset re-distribution and debt cancellation in order to better help those in-need in the community.
Keynote speaker Dato Dr Kim Tan, co-founder of Transformational Business Network (TBN) Asia, highlighted ways in which the spirit of the 'Jubilee' a term which has biblical origins, had a special impact on the ownership and management of one's resources in relation to helping the less fortunate, particularly in cancelling their debts such as household arrears.
Special guest speaker Mr Sim Gim Guan, CEO of National Council of Social Service commended VWOs on their role in Singapore's robust social service sector and applauded cross-sector collaborations such as the seminar which was organised jointly by TBN, Metropolitan YMCA and Care Corner Singapore.
Care Corner Singapore featured one such platform in which cross-sector partnership could take place to help poor and vulnerable families. 'Jubilee – A New Beginning!' aims to help families in distress who have accumulated household debts, cancel their arrears through a Jubilee Fund. At the same time these families are offered a new start through matching them with trained volunteer befrienders.
